The boot is getting the boot! Starting July 1, the Parking Division will be implementing a new vehicle immobilization device called the Barnacle.

The Barnacle is a suction device which sticks to a vehicle’s windshield and can only be removed by the vehicle owner once outstanding parking fines have been paid online or over the phone.

The Barnacle is safer, easier to see, and faster to remove than the boot. With the boot, there was some danger of the driver not noticing it before driving off, causing damage to the vehicle. And you no longer need a parking official’s help to remove the device — you can do it yourself!

Most Omaha drivers will never see a Barnacle, but if you have three citations, or more than $108 in parking fines, past 30 days overdue, you may get stuck. However, if this applies to you, we want to give you a month to start fresh. For the entire month of June, we will not be issuing boots or Barnacles, so you can get your fines paid without fear of being immobilized. Pay your outstanding citations here.
