For years, nearly all parking citations have been a flat fee of $16.00. Whether you overstayed your meter or parked in front of a fire hydrant, the penalty was the same.
Starting July 8, the City will be implementing a new citation fee structure, with each fine reflecting the severity of the violation. Standard citations for an expired meter or extending your parking time beyond the stated time limit will remain at $16.00, but more serious infractions like parking in a handicap zone, in front of a fire hydrant, obstructing traffic or parking in a snow removal zone will cost extra. You can find a full breakdown of the new fees here.
In addition to the new fee structure, the City will introduce a $6.00 discount to those who pay their citation within 48 hours of receiving it. The $20.00 late fee applied after 30 days will remain in effect.
