According to city municipal code, street closings and display of banners or graphics require city permits prior to the event or display of the banner. See below for links to permit applications.
Any resident for an area in which they reside may host an event in public right-of-way abutting their property. The applicant shall be responsible for barricades or any other traffic control devices needed to maintain a safe environment. For complete rules and application, please follow this link.
For special events, such as festivals, runs, parades, or business and church celebrations, applicants must complete an application and comply with the City of Omaha Barricading Standards, Specifications, Methods, and Materials. Prior to construction, where temporary use of City right-of-way is needed for man lifts, cranes, construction, or storage of materials, dumpsters, or portable storage units, the applicant will need a Street Obstruction Permit. Insurance must be provided naming the City of Omaha as an additional insured. For an application, please follow this link. Note: If the concrete is being disturbed, removed, drilled, or replaced, this will fall under a Street Excavation Permit done by the Street Department.
This includes vehicles with a:
- Width greater than 8 ft. 6 in.
- Height greater than 13 ft. 6 in.
- Length greater than 65 ft.
- Weight greater than 80,000 lbs.
For events open to the public without exclusion, banners may be hung from overpasses for one week. Liability insurance required. Content and language must be approved by the City of Omaha. For events open to the public in the vicinity of the location of the graphics. A non-refundable registration fee of $50 must accompany this application. No more than 30 locations. Chalk decals and washable paint only. Typically allowed up to 14 days prior to and 3 days after the event. To fill out the application, follow this link.
